Contact Tags

Last updated Aug 28th, 2024

Contact tags allow you to filter for community Contacts with certain attributes, and can be used to filter Contacts on the Contacts, Activity, and Organizations pages.

Common Room allows you to automatically tag Contacts to make it easier to surface Contacts well-matched to your programs. You can also create and apply your own custom tags to track community Contacts (for example, swag recipients or beta testers).

To view the complete list of the custom tags used within your Common Room, view the table below or go to your App settings.

Customize or disable tags

The Contributor, Influencer, Community Qualified, Ideal Persona, and Product Qualified default tag criteria can be customized to a criteria that best fits your community. Any tag which is not suitable to your community can also be turned off. To customize or disable a default tag:

  1. Tags can be found in Settings. Click the Settings gear at the bottom left of the left navigation bar.
  2. Then, click Tags in the left navigation bar.
  3. Default tags can be found at the top of the “Contacts” tab which contains all Contact tags. Click either the default tag you want to customize or disable the tag by toggling the tag “Status” to Off.
  4. For customizable tags, you will see a tag detail page where you can set your custom criteria with the filters that are available in Common Room. Note: If you don’t see a filter for a specific signal (e.g. GitHub), you may have not connected it to your community yet. Connect the signal first, then update the default tag definition.
  5. When you define your custom criteria, the preview table will update with a few Contacts that qualify under the custom criteria. Verify that this is what you’re expecting.
  6. Click Save.
